Mexico to Deploy Major Security Operation for Match Against Portugal

As part of the “Safe Stadium” operation, the Citizen Security Secretariat will implement a major security device for the friendly match between the Mexico and Portugal national teams, which will be held this Saturday, March 28, at 7:00 PM at the Azteca Stadium. To guarantee the safety of attendees, workers, and neighbors, 4,613 police officers will be deployed, supported by two drones from the Águila Unit, a Cóndor helicopter, as well as four ambulances and two motor ambulances from ERUM. Of the total force, 2,000 elements of the Auxiliary Police will be in charge of surveillance inside the stadium, including access points, stands, and the pitch area, in addition to implementing actions against ticket resale in the vicinity. Meanwhile, 800 Traffic agents, with the support of patrol cars and tow trucks, will carry out road closures and traffic management tasks to facilitate mobility in the south of the capital. Among the main affected roads are Calzada de Tlalpan, Periférico Sur, Avenida Acoxpa, Santa Úrsula, and Viaducto Tlalpan, where there will be partial and total closures from noon until after the event. Authorities recommended that motorists use alternative routes such as División del Norte, Insurgentes, Circuito Interior, and Canal Nacional. In addition, drop-off points for transportation via app will be enabled on Viaducto Tlalpan and Acoxpa, and it was announced that there will be no access to stadium parking lots, so attendees are urged to use public transportation. Screen at the Zócalo As part of the operation, 2,855 police officers will also be deployed at the capital's Zócalo, where screens will be set up for the broadcast of the match, in order to guarantee the safety of those who come to this point. The capital authorities issued a series of recommendations to attendees, such as avoiding dangerous objects, respecting signage, locating emergency exits, and leaving in an orderly manner at the end of the event. The SSC called on the public to stay informed through official channels and to use the “Mi Policía” app to request assistance in case of an emergency.
